In short
Ask Accepteriez-vous que j’indique votre nom comme personne de référence pour cette candidature ?. Name the role, the application deadline and the work the tutor supervised. Wait for permission, then send the agreed supporting details so the person knows what they may be asked about.

The practice conversation takes place on 10 May. Célia is applying for a document-assistant role by 15 May. Mme Delmas supervised her placement from January to March 2024. The request concerns the placement she supervised, so the reference has a clear and relevant scope.
- Bonjour Célia, comment se passe votre recherche d’emploi ?Hello Célia, how is your job search going?
Ask permission before naming the former tutor as a reference.
- De quel poste s’agit-il, et quelle est la date limite ?Which role is it, and what is the deadline?
Give the job, deadline and experience she directly supervised.
- Oui, vous pouvez indiquer mon nom pour parler de ce stage. Envoyez-moi l’annonce et votre CV, s’il vous plaît.Yes, you may give my name to discuss that placement. Please send me the advert and your CV.
Acknowledge the agreed scope and state the next step before the deadline.
A reference concerns experience the person knows
Votre référence pourrait porter sur mon stage limits the requested contribution. It helps the tutor understand the relevant period and tasks. The name and title of a referee do not supply evidence about every later job, so keep the supervised experience explicit.
Vous aviez suivi mon travail à l’accueil pendant le stage ; c’est cet aspect du poste qui serait particulièrement pertinent.
You supervised my reception work during the placement; that aspect would be particularly relevant to the role.
Send context after agreement
The vacancy advert tells the tutor which tasks matter to the application. The CV helps her place the earlier placement in the candidate’s current path. The message promises to send these on 11 May; it does not pretend that the hiring decision is already known.
For your own request, choose someone who can describe the experience you are presenting. Name the application and deadline, ask permission clearly and follow the person’s preferred contact arrangement. The useful result is an informed, agreed reference rather than an assumed endorsement.
