Write a French self-introduction: A1 task and model paragraph

Introduce yourself to a French study group in a short paragraph. Use a model, sentence patterns and a checklist to check age, studies, interests and purpose.

In short

Start with Je m’appelle…, then connect a few details with et: your city, age, studies and interests. Finish with why you are writing to this group. Use j’ai for age and je suis for a role: J’ai vingt-quatre ans et je suis étudiante.

How do you introduce yourself in French?

Six building blocks for your paragraph
PurposeFrench modelYour detail
NameJe m’appelle Lina.Your first name
AgeJ’ai vingt-quatre ans.Your age
CityJ’habite à Nantes.Your city
Studies or workJe suis étudiante en histoire.Your course or job
InterestsJ’aime lire et faire du vélo.Two activities
AvailabilityJe suis libre le mercredi après-midi.A day and time

Lina’s message gives the group a reason to reply: she wants to practise French and offers Wednesday afternoon. The final question repeats that day. To adapt the model, change the personal details and keep the invitation consistent with your availability.

How do you join two short facts in French?

J’ai vingt-quatre ans et je travaille dans une librairie.

I am twenty-four and I work in a bookshop.

Et connects two facts. The age uses ai; the work activity uses travaille.

J’aime lire et écouter de la musique.

I like reading and listening to music.

Use infinitives after j’aime: lire, écouter.

For a male student, write je suis étudiant; for a female student, write je suis étudiante. In this simple pattern, the role follows je suis directly. For work, je travaille dans une librairie is another useful route: it names the workplace.
