Accordons-le: concede a point in French without conceding the conclusion

Use accordons-le in four French debate scenes, granting a precise fact, criterion or inference without silently accepting a broader conclusion.

In short

Name the proposition you grant: Accordons-le : le coût initial est inférieur. Then identify what does not follow automatically. A real concession remains accepted when you raise a different criterion or challenge a later inference.

An opponent may move from “cheaper initially” to “must be adopted immediately”. Those are separate propositions. You can accept the first while asking about maintenance, access or feasibility before accepting the second. The four scenes distinguish a fact, a criterion, a limited inference and a remaining evidence gap.

1

Grant a fact

The lower cost is accepted, not every consequence.

InterlocutorLe devis est moins cher. The quote is cheaper.
YouAccordons-le : son coût initial est inférieur.Let us grant that its initial cost is lower.
InterlocutorVous soutenez donc son adoption immédiate ?So you support immediate adoption?
YouJ’admets cet avantage sur le coût initial, pas cette conclusion.I accept that initial cost advantage, not that conclusion.
YouLa maintenance doit encore être comparée.Maintenance still needs comparing.
2

Grant a criterion

Accept the relevance of access while discussing the remedy.

InterlocutorL’accès doit être un critère central.Access must be a central criterion.
YouSur ce principe, je vous rejoins.I agree with that principle.
InterlocutorIl faut donc supprimer toute réservation. So all bookings must be removed.
The principle alone does not justify that particular means.
Let us also compare a quota of walk-in places.
3

Grant a limited inference

State exactly what follows from the evidence.

Both delays come from the same stage.
YouJ’admets qu’il faut examiner cette étape en priorité.I accept that we should examine that stage first.
InterlocutorNous pouvons donc supprimer le contrôle.Then we can remove the check.
That removal does not yet follow from the observation.
We must first identify the cause of the delay.
4

Keep the concession visible

An objection should not silently retract the accepted fact.

The new slot attracted more people.
YouJe reconnais cette progression.I acknowledge that increase.
InterlocutorPourquoi demandez-vous d’autres données ?Why do you request more data?
YouParce que nous ignorons qui reste exclu.Because we do not know who remains excluded.
The increase is real in the count; its distribution needs study.

Do not take back what you just granted

If you say je reconnais cette progression, your next sentence should not pretend the count never rose. Instead, explain the unanswered question: who benefits, which period is covered or what further cost is omitted. This makes the disagreement intellectually useful and easier for the other speaker to answer.

Question 1No account needed
What is granted in scene one?

Choose one answer.

Answer and explanation

Lower initial cost. Only initial cost is explicitly accepted.

Question 2No account needed
Is accepting access as a criterion the same as approving every proposed remedy?

Choose one answer.

Answer and explanation

No. A principle and a specific means require separate reasoning.

Rehearse a two-sentence contribution: grant one exact proposition, then state one distinct unresolved issue. Avoid a decorative concession marker followed by dismissal of every part of the other person’s point.
