Ask a French researcher what a study did not measure

Practise a sixteen-line French exchange asking what a study did not measure. Clarify participants, task, outcome and practical limits.

In short

Ask Quelle tâche ? Quels participants ? Quel résultat mesuré ? Then ask directly Avez-vous aussi évalué… ? An unmeasured skill remains outside the finding even when a related task shows an improvement.

Yellow the idea to rememberBlue French to learn

The researcher reports better recall. Your questions establish the exact activity, sample and time interval before considering how to use the method. Practise the learner lines and keep the final recommendation proportionate to the answers.

Your lines are hidden in practice mode. Say them aloud, then reveal to compare.
  1. Researcher

    English

The group that spread review over three days recalled more words on average than the group that reviewed everything in one session.

  2. You

Quelle tâche les participants ont-ils réalisée exactement ?

What task did participants perform exactly?

    English

What task did participants perform exactly?

  3. Researcher

    English

They all learnt the same list of twenty words.

  4. You

    Qui participait à l’étude ?

Who took part in the study?

    English

Who took part in the study?

  5. Researcher

    Quarante adultes volontaires.

    English

    Forty adult volunteers.

  6. You

    When was recall measured?

    English

    When was recall measured?

  7. Researcher

    Une semaine après l’apprentissage.

    English

    One week after learning.

  8. You

Avez-vous aussi évalué le raisonnement ?

    Did you also assess reasoning?

    English

    Did you also assess reasoning?

  9. Researcher

    English

No, that skill was not measured.

  10. You

Et les résultats scolaires à long terme ?

    And long-term school outcomes?

    English

    And long-term school outcomes?

  11. Researcher

    English

We have no data on that point.

  12. You

So the finding needs to be limited to recall in this task.

    English

So the finding needs to be limited to recall in this task.

  13. Researcher

Oui.

    English

Yes. Wider application would require further work.

  14. You

Could we nevertheless try this method for comparable vocabulary?

    English

Could we nevertheless try this method for comparable vocabulary?

  15. Researcher

    English

It can be explored, provided its use in the new setting is evaluated.

  16. You

I’ll therefore present an approach to test, not a general guarantee.

    English

I’ll therefore present an approach to test, not a general guarantee.

Not measured does not mean no effect

The researcher says reasoning was not assessed. That answer leaves the reasoning effect unknown; it does not establish either improvement or no improvement. Similarly, a one-week follow-up does not provide long-term school outcomes. A wider application needs evidence that addresses those particular gaps.

The dossier shows an advantage in recall; it provides no information on long-term school outcomes.

Question 1No account needed
What is unknown in the exchange?

Choose one answer.

Answer and explanation

Long-term school outcomes. The researcher explicitly says no data are available on long-term school outcomes.

Question 2No account needed
What practical conclusion is offered?

Choose one answer.

Answer and explanation

Explore a comparable use and evaluate it. The exchange allows a bounded trial while requiring evaluation in the new setting.

Ask the question that matches the uncertainty rather than repeatedly requesting “more proof”. A precise question helps the expert supply a precise answer and helps you explain that answer to others.
