B1 French story: the screenshot with the missing date

Read a B1 French story about a genuine pool notice shared without its year, then identify the evidence that corrects the neighbourhood rumour.

In short

A genuine notice can become misleading when its year is missing. In this story, the archive identifies an old closure, while a current page and a call about the specific class establish the present arrangement. Follow the source of each claim before deciding whether the Saturday class is cancelled.

Read once to follow Camille’s change of plan. Then read again to find the difference between the old notice, the neighbour’s conclusion and what reception actually confirms. Track both the year of the archived notice and the class specifically checked by reception.

Read it in English

On Thursday evening, Camille receives a screenshot in her neighbourhood group. It reads “Swimming pool closed from 8 to 15 June”. A neighbour adds, “It’s confirmed: Saturday’s classes are cancelled.” Camille is due to take her niece to a class the following Saturday.

She starts writing to her sister, then notices the bottom of the image is cut off. The pool’s name appears, but neither the year nor the link to the original page is visible. She asks the neighbour where he found the notice. He says a friend sent it to him.

Camille then searches the pool’s website. The current page shows the usual hours. In the archives, she finds a closure from 8 to 15 June, but in the previous year. The screenshot shows exactly the same title and small photograph.

She calls reception on Friday morning. The person answering explains that no closure is planned for that Saturday. Camille also asks whether her niece’s class is going ahead. After checking the group’s name, the employee confirms it.

In the neighbourhood conversation, Camille shares the current link and the old notice’s link. She writes, “The image is genuine, but it concerns last year. Reception confirms that my niece’s class is going ahead this Saturday.” The neighbour corrects his first message and adds the year to the screenshot.

Camille finally tells her sister. She does not just send “Everything’s fine”: she specifies which class she had checked. The problem did not come from a fake document, but from information deprived of its full date. Next time, her sister will ask for the link before changing their plans.

Question 1No account needed
What first makes Camille question the screenshot’s relevance?

Choose one answer.

Answer and explanation

The bottom is cut off and no year or source link is visible.. The missing year and original link prevent her from establishing when the notice applies.

Question 2No account needed
What does the archive establish?

Choose one answer.

Answer and explanation

The notice concerns a closure in the previous year.. The matching title and photograph identify a real older notice.

Question 3No account needed
What additional detail does Camille have reception verify?

Choose one answer.

Answer and explanation

Whether her niece’s particular class is maintained. She asks about the specific class, rather than relying only on the absence of a general closure.

Question 4No account needed
Which summary preserves the evidence?

Choose one answer.

Answer and explanation

The genuine image concerned last year; current arrangements were checked separately.. The story distinguishes an authentic outdated document from current confirmation.

Separate the statement from the source

Le voisin ajoute presents what the neighbour says, rather than an established fact. L’employé confirme comes later, after a check of the named class. In a summary, retain that order: Une ancienne capture a circulé, puis Camille a vérifié la date et le maintien du cours. This keeps the correction tied to the evidence that supports it.
