In short
Entreprendre begins an activity, poursuivre continues it, interrompre breaks it, reprendre resumes it and achever completes it. Read the object and context. Completing a course is not automatically a statement that a particular diploma was awarded.

A biography can compress years into one verb. The five stages below help you recover what that verb establishes. The surrounding words matter too: après une pause clarifies resumption, while pendant six mois describes the length of an interruption. The exercise does not ask you to decide whether the whole career was successful.

An interruption leaves the later story open
Il a interrompu sa formation pendant six mois gives a break with a duration. It does not mean he graduated, and it does not by itself mean he never returned. Après six mois de pause, il a repris… adds the resumption as a new fact. Keep the two events distinct rather than treating interruption as permanent abandonment in every context.
Elle avait interrompu ses études en 2020, puis elle les a reprises en 2022.
She had interrupted her studies in 2020, then resumed them in 2022.
What exactly is completed?
Achever son stage marks the end of the placement. It is narrower than finishing every part of a degree. Terminer son cursus marks completion of the course, but the sample explicitly leaves any diploma award unspecified. Look for obtenir, délivrer or another result statement if the qualification outcome is the question.
| Wording | It does not by itself establish… |
|---|---|
| entreprendre une formation | A completed qualification |
| poursuivre ses études | A change of course |
| interrompre son stage | A permanent decision never to return |
| reprendre une activité | Completion of that activity |
| achever un stage | An awarded degree |
For a short summary, put each stage beside its date and object. You can then describe a path with starts, breaks and returns without forcing every event into a simple success-or-failure label.
