In short
Use dire que for statements and demander si for yes/no questions. After a past reporting verb, tenses shift: present → imparfait (il est fatigué → il a dit qu'il était fatigué), future → conditional (je viendrai → il a dit qu'il viendrait). Qu'est-ce que becomes ce que.

How does reported speech change the tense in French?

Yes/no questions → si.
- Il a dit qu'il viendra.Il a dit qu'il viendrait.
Future → conditional after a past verb.
