In short
A notebook is un cahier, a pen is un stylo, and a pencil case is une trousse. Learn each object with un or une so you keep its gender. To borrow something, ask Tu peux me prêter un stylo, s’il te plaît ?

A cahier is for writing in; a manuel is the textbook you study from. A chemise can hold papers or mean a shirt: the classroom context gives you the folder meaning. Un bureau can be a desk or an office. Here it is the piece of furniture.
| Object | My | Your, with tu |
|---|---|---|
| un cahier | mon cahier | ton cahier |
| une trousse | ma trousse | ta trousse |
| des ciseaux | mes ciseaux | tes ciseaux |
| une agrafeuse | mon agrafeuse | ton agrafeuse |
Agrafeuse stays feminine, but a singular feminine noun beginning with a vowel takes mon or ton: mon agrafeuse. For scissors, use the plural des ciseaux; one pair is une paire de ciseaux.
