Matching game

DELF B1 reading: match cancellations to the remaining options

Match six French cancellation notices to alternatives that still meet the reader’s stated need, distinguishing a cancelled service from a closed venue.

In short

Identify exactly what is cancelled, then compare what remains with your need. An event can continue without seats; a venue can stay open after one guided visit is cancelled. An available alternative is useful only if it still meets the stated requirement.

Each left-hand scenario below combines a need with a notice. Match it to the option that preserves that need. The six situations are independent. A service being open does not automatically mean it provides the seat, instruction, workspace or transaction the reader needs.

Choose the remaining option that meets the stated need

Tap one on the left, then its partner on the right.

Read the noun that the cancellation applies to

La visite guidée est annulée ; l’exposition reste ouverte en visite libre.

The guided tour is cancelled; the exhibition remains open for independent visits.

The cancelled item is the guided tour, not the whole exhibition. If you only want to see the exhibits, independent entry may still satisfy your aim. If you specifically need a guide, it does not. The learner task supplies the aim so that the remaining option can be evaluated against it.

Preserve the requirement, not merely the location

For a reader who needs a seat, an event with standing room only does not meet the requirement. For a reader who needs to borrow a book, a lending counter can remain useful even when the reading room is closed. The relevant distinction is between the service needed and the service withdrawn.

Question 1No account needed
A notice cancels only a guided tour. What follows?

Choose one answer.

Answer and explanation

You must read whether other visiting options remain open.. A limited cancellation does not establish the status of all other services.

Question 2No account needed
The event continues, but no seats remain. Does it meet a stated need for a seat?

Choose one answer.

Answer and explanation

No.. The requirement is seating, not merely entry.

Question 3No account needed
What does reste accessible signal?

Choose one answer.

Answer and explanation

Continued access to the specified option.. Rester indicates that the access continues.

When reading a notice, read exceptions and alternatives before changing your plan. If your essential requirement is not addressed, ask a focused question: Le comptoir permet-il toujours d’emprunter ? or Y a-t-il encore des places assises ? This tests the missing condition directly.
