DELF B1 writing: advise someone who regrets choosing a course

Write a B1 French advice reply to a friend disappointed by a fast photography course. Reframe the actual problem and suggest achievable next steps.

In short

Respond to the friend’s stated difficulty before proposing a choice. Here, the problem is the pace and lack of practice, not the prestige of the course. Suggest a conversation with the teacher and a manageable practice plan, then leave continuation or change conditional on the information obtained.

A beginner photographer asks an instructor about the pace of a camera lesson and receives a manageable practice suggestion.

The friend asked for advice, so suggestions are welcome in this task. Your reply should still distinguish their goal from your own preferences. The source message gives a six-week photography course, two sessions already attended and uncertainty about asking questions. Do not invent a refund entitlement or a guaranteed transfer.

Camille

Keep the goal in view

The model distinguishes the course format from Alex’s ability. The message says he wants to learn and finds the pace too fast; it does not establish that he lacks talent. Reframing that gap makes the later suggestions relevant rather than substituting the writer’s favourite course or career ambition.

Information and practice serve different purposes

Speaking to the teacher can clarify the coming sessions. Trying one setting gives a concrete example to discuss. Neither action guarantees the course will become suitable, but both can improve the basis for the decision. The final hypothetical keeps a change of format available without announcing an automatic transfer.

Question 1No account needed
What is Alex’s stated problem?

Choose one answer.

Answer and explanation

The course is too fast and has too little practice. The message explicitly names pace, practice and difficulty asking questions.

Question 2No account needed
Which first step gathers relevant information?

Choose one answer.

Answer and explanation

Ask the teacher about the next sessions and the pace. A specific question can clarify the format before a final decision.

Question 3No account needed
Which hypothesis has the correct pattern?

Choose one answer.

Answer and explanation

Si tu préparais trois questions, tu aurais…. Use si + imparfait with conditional in this hypothetical construction.

Before writing your reply, underline the friend’s goal and obstacle. Build the suggestions around those two facts. Advice is easier to assess when the reader can see how each step responds to the actual problem.
