DELF B1 writing: ask a local paper to correct a misattributed quote

Write a formal B1 French request to correct a misattributed quotation, giving the article reference, correct speaker and exact replacement.

In short

Identify the article, the wrongly attributed quotation and its actual speaker. Explain how you can support the correction, then request a precise change: Pourriez-vous remplacer mon nom par celui de… ? Keep the wording focused on the attribution error rather than guessing how it happened.

A local paper has attributed another participant’s comment to you. Your aim is to help the editor find and repair that specific error. A useful message names the headline and date, quotes the short passage and explains who actually spoke. You do not need to accuse the journalist of a motive.

Dans un article du journal Le Passage du 12 mai, intitulé « Les habitants discutent du nouveau jardin », la phrase « Nous préférons garder cet espace ouvert le dimanche » vous est attribuée. Elle a été prononcée par Nora Vidal. Vous avez gardé le programme et un enregistrement de la rencontre. Écrivez à la rédaction pour expliquer l’erreur et demander une correction précise, en 160 à 190 mots.

(160 mots minimum)

Write 160–190 words to a local newspaper. Explain that a quotation was attributed to you instead of Nora Vidal, identify your supporting records and request a precise correction.

Madame, Monsieur,

Separate quotation and attribution

The model does not ask the editor to change Nora’s words. It asks for the speaker’s name to be corrected. Il s’agit de introduces the exact passage, while ces mots sont ceux de identifies the proposed replacement. The explanation about representation shows why the error matters without making a legal claim.
