Describe your home in French: an A1 writing task with a room scene

Write a beginner French home description with il y a, room names and location phrases. Explore a bedroom, then use a model and checklist to write your own.

In short

Start with the type of home and its location. Use il y a to introduce rooms or furniture, then give a few positions: Le bureau est à côté de la fenêtre. Finish with something you like about the place.

Dans ma chambre, le bureau est à côté de la fenêtre et la lampe est sur le bureau. Il n’y a pas de balcon, mais j’aime mon appartement parce qu’il est calme.

Once you have introduced une chambre, use la chambre or ma chambre to return to it. Match the adjective to its noun: un salon lumineux, une chambre lumineuse. For positions, keep the whole phrase together: à côté de la fenêtre, près de la porte.
