In short
Describe the connection you mean: un ancrage dans un quartier, une attache à un lieu, une appartenance à un réseau. Nationality on a form answers a different administrative question.

Belonging may concern a language, place, practice or group. A person can describe several connections at once or choose not to use a particular label. These examples keep the individual context visible rather than assigning the same feelings to everyone with a shared origin.

Choose the relationship
Une attache can name a continuing personal tie. Un ancrage suggests grounding in a setting. Une appartenance names membership or belonging. Their meanings overlap, but replacing one with another may change the aspect you emphasise. Add a complement and a concrete detail when the abstract noun is vague.
Describe one connection in the first person, then paraphrase it with attribution: Elle explique qu’elle…. Preserve the speaker’s scope. A chosen description should not become a permanent rule about a family or community.
