French dialogue at a café: asking to charge your phone

Ask a French café if you can charge your phone or laptop, find a table near a socket and ask for the Wi-Fi code. A full dialogue with practice mode.

In short

Ask Est-ce que je peux recharger mon téléphone ? or Il y a une prise de courant ? (Is there a socket?). For the internet, ask Vous avez le wifi ? C'est quoi, le code ? Order something first; it's only polite.

France uses two-pin plugs (type E), so British and American chargers need an adaptor. Ma batterie est à plat or je n'ai plus de batterie both mean your phone is dead. In busy cafés at lunchtime, staff may prefer you not to work on a laptop, so ask: Ça ne vous dérange pas ?
