Gap-fill

French ethics gap-fill: information was given but the choice was unclear

Complete a French account separating information sent, information understood and an explicit choice about sharing a workshop recording.

In short

Being told about a use is different from understanding it and choosing it. Preserve each step: la notice a été envoyée, la participante a demandé une précision, then elle a accepté uniquement le partage interne. Do not replace the sequence with a broad statement of agreement.

The organiser of a discussion group sent a short notice about recording. One participant, Ana, assumed the recording would stay with the facilitator. A later question revealed that it might also be shared with the group. Complete the account while retaining the speaker and the limits of Ana’s eventual answer.

Read it in English

The organiser had informed participants that recording was planned. Ana had read the notice, but thought only the facilitator would listen to the file.

Before the activity, Ana asked whom the file would be sent to. The organiser explained that the group could also access it for a week. This clarification changed what Ana understood about the project.

Ana then accepted sharing only within the group. She requested that no extract be placed online publicly. The organiser confirmed that limit in writing.

The final report says Ana received information and then gave limited agreement. It does not present her initial silence as general authorisation.

Notice sentL’organisateur a envoyé la notice. That every reader understood the same thing.
A refusal or approval of every use.
Permission for public extracts.

The source of the clarification matters. Ana asks; the organiser supplies the access details; Ana gives the bounded answer. If you write Ana a expliqué que le fichier serait public, you change both the speaker and the stated use. If you write Ana a tout accepté, you remove the explicit exclusion of public sharing.
