Verb drill

Futur antérieur drill: what will already be finished?

Build the French future perfect with aurai or serai plus a past participle. Practise deadlines, earlier departures and completed actions before a call.

In short

The futur antérieur presents an action as completed by a future point: à midi, j’aurai fini. Build it with the future of avoir or être plus a past participle. In quand j’aurai fini, je t’appellerai, finishing comes before the call.

Elle est partie.Elle sera partie. She will have left.
Nous avons lu.Nous aurons lu.We will have read.

The future endings sit on the auxiliary: aurai, auras, aura, aurons, aurez, auront or serai, seras, sera, serons, serez, seront. The second piece is a past participle: fini, lu, pris, parti. With être, these examples agree with the subject: elle sera partie, elles seront arrivées.

Quand Léa arrivera à dix heures, Sami aura déjà terminé.

When Léa arrives at ten, Sami will already have finished.

Two future points: Sami finishes first; Léa arrives afterwards. Déjà highlights the earlier completion.
