In short

Choose six short phrases about one kind of information, such as appointment times. Use a course recording with a transcript or ask a French-speaking partner to read the list below in a mixed order. Write each value with its unit, then replay or repeat the phrase to check it.

Prepare one answer sheet

For this round, the question is “What time is the appointment?” Draw six empty boxes. Write times as digits: treize heures quinze becomes 13:15. Keep the reading list with your partner so you hear the answer before seeing its spelling.

Partner’s reading list · read each sentence aloud
ItemFrench to readAnswer key
ALe rendez-vous est à treize heures quinze.13:15
BLe rendez-vous est à quinze heures vingt-deux.15:22
CLe rendez-vous est à dix heures.10:00
DLe rendez-vous est à dix-sept heures.17:00
ELe rendez-vous est à midi.12:00
FLe rendez-vous est à vingt heures.20:00

Run the round

  • The reader chooses a mixed order and notes the letters in that order.
  • The reader says one complete sentence; the listener writes the time.
  • The listener asks for repetition when needed: Vous pouvez répéter, s’il vous plaît ?
  • After all six, compare the answers with the reader’s sequence.
  • Repeat the missed sentences, then try them again in a fresh order.

How do you practise listening to French numbers?

Keep these in separate rounds at first
French phraseWhat to record
Le train part à treize heures quinze.Departure: 13:15
Le billet coûte soixante-douze euros.Price: €72
Le train part du quai numéro douze.Platform: 12

Once the time round feels familiar, try prices or platform numbers. Listen for the complete information. A correct number beside the wrong unit can still send you to the wrong place: platform twelve and twelve euros have different jobs in the journey.
