French email labels: reply to pour information, pour avis and pour validation

Choose a precise reply to French email routing labels: acknowledge receipt, give advice or approve a named version while keeping the scope clear.

In short

Pour information means read and note; pour avis asks for an opinion; pour validation asks for approval. Treat the label as a reading cue, then check the complete request, your role and any deadline.

An attachment arrives with three possible subject lines. The file itself can be identical, but the expected response changes. A draft sent for advice remains open to suggestions. A draft sent for validation needs a decision from someone authorised to give it. Receiving the file does not automatically give you that authority.

Pour informationBien reçu, merci. You acknowledge the material.
Pour avisLe calendrier me paraît réaliste, mais le test final manque. You provide an assessment and a concern.
Pour validationJe valide le calendrier ; le budget reste à approuver. You approve a bounded part and leave another open.

A short bien reçu confirms arrival. It does not mean bon pour accord. If someone needs authorisation, make the scope explicit: version, date, budget or action. Sous réserve de adds a condition: Je valide sous réserve de la correction du montant. The other person must understand whether the condition needs to be met before they proceed.

Le message indique « pour information », mais demande une signature. S’agit-il d’un simple accusé de réception ou d’une approbation ?

The message says “for information” but asks for a signature. Is this simply an acknowledgement of receipt or an approval?

Labels can conflict with the body. A heading pour avis followed by merci de confirmer votre accord pour engager la dépense requests more than comments. Ask for clarification instead of relying on the heading alone. The same applies to copied recipients: being in a copy field does not settle whether an action is expected if the message specifically names you.
