French approval labels: read the stage, condition and authorised scope

Compare three French approval stages in a venue’s process. Keep the pending safety check separate from final permission for one event, date and time window.

In short

Read the conditions and scope beside each approval label. In the process below, accord de principe supports the idea, accord conditionnel depends on a completed safety check, and autorisation finale permits the named event. Only the final message permits the public announcement.

An association proposes an evening event in a shared hall. The venue follows the three steps described here. Treat this as the process stated in these messages: the labels alone would not establish the same procedure in every organisation.

Named event authorised

  1. Autorisation finale : le contrôle est effectué. L’événement du 18 juin est autorisé de 18 à 21 heures. Vous pouvez l’annoncer.Final permission: the check has been completed. The event on 18 June is authorised from 6 to 9 pm. You may announce it.The named event and hours are authorised; the announcement is explicitly permitted.
  2. Accord conditionnel : avis favorable sous réserve du contrôle de sécurité.Conditional agreement: favourable view subject to the safety check.A stated condition remains. Do not treat the favourable view as completion of that check.

A positive message can still leave work outstanding

Avis favorable sounds positive, but sous réserve de makes the remaining condition central. A short summary should retain it: L’avis est favorable, sous réserve du contrôle de sécurité. Removing the second half would make the status sound more final than the message allows. Likewise, the final permission concerns 18 June from six to nine; it does not permit future events on any date.
