In short
Write Le message qui circule n’est pas confirmé. Selon…, then give the precise checked detail. Attribute the original assertion as something someone shared, rather than stating it again in your own voice. If only one part is verified, name the remaining uncertainty separately.
Yellow the idea to rememberBlue French to learn

Your neighbourhood group has received a message claiming that a library will close for a month. You check the library’s current notice. Only one upstairs room is closed for repairs from Monday to Wednesday. The reception desk has not yet confirmed whether a Wednesday workshop will move to another room. Use exactly that evidence in the exchange.
- On vient de m’envoyer : « La bibliothèque ferme pendant un mois. » Quelqu’un sait ?Someone just sent me: “The library is closing for a month.” Does anyone know?
Open your correction without adopting the rumour.
- Qu’est-ce que l’avis dit exactement ?What exactly does the notice say?
Give the scope and dates supported by the notice.
- Et l’atelier de mercredi, on peut y aller ?And Wednesday’s workshop—can we go?
Keep the workshop uncertainty separate.
- Merci. Je vais remplacer mon premier message par le lien de l’avis.Thanks. I’ll replace my first message with the notice’s link.
Make the correction usable
A correction should let readers change a decision. “C’est faux” does not tell them whether the building, a room or an activity is affected. Selon l’avis actuel supplies attribution; seule la salle de l’étage supplies scope; du lundi au mercredi supplies duration. Together they replace the inaccurate claim with information people can use.
Correction : l’avis concerne une seule salle, pas une fermeture de toute la bibliothèque.
Correction: the notice concerns one room, rather than closure of the whole library.
Verify each practical consequence separately
The status of an event may depend on room changes that are not covered by a general notice. Keep “the room is closed” separate from “the workshop is cancelled”. A follow-up can be short once the answer arrives: L’accueil confirme que l’atelier aura lieu dans la salle du rez-de-chaussée. Only write that sentence after the confirmation actually exists.
In your own update, include the source link when available and make the replacement easy to find. If you wrote the original inaccurate message, you can add Je corrige mon message précédent. That identifies which statement the correction supersedes.
