Décevoir conjugation: déçois, décevons, déçu and décevrai

Learn décevoir in seven tenses and moods, including déçois, décevons, déçu and déçoive, and avoid confusing disappointment with deception.

In short

Décevoir usually means to disappoint: Ce résultat me déçoit. Its main stems alternate: je déçois, nous décevons, ils déçoivent. The past participle is déçu and the future stem is décevr-. English “deceive” is usually tromper, not décevoir.

The spelling follows both the verb’s stem changes and the sound of c. A cedilla keeps the /s/ sound before o or u in déçois and déçu. Before e, ordinary c already represents that sound, so décevons does not need a cedilla. Learn the six-person pattern rather than adding ç to every form.
