Your Wednesday class has been cancelled
Your Wednesday-evening drawing workshop is cancelled. You work on Saturdays, but are free on Mondays and Thursdays after 6 pm. The centre first offers a Saturday-morning session. Ask about another option.
| Purpose | French pattern | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Ask staff to check | Pourriez-vous + infinitif ? | Pourriez-vous regarder le programme ? |
| Ask about availability | Je voudrais savoir si + phrase. |
| Introduce an alternative | Serait-il possible de + infinitif ? | Serait-il possible de changer de groupe ? |
After pourriez-vous, go straight to the infinitive: vérifier, chercher, préciser. After serait-il possible, use de. Say when you can come, so the person at reception can narrow the search.
Name the drawing activity
Find:
1 · Ask politely: use the present conditional
- Je suivre une autre séance de dessin. (vouloir, je)
- -vous vérifier les créneaux du soir ? (pouvoir, vous; start with a capital)
2 · Keep the follow-up precise
(after)
- Pourriez-vous me la durée de la séance ? (préciser: choose the form after pouvoir)
- Merci vérifier les possibilités avant vendredi. (preposition before the infinitive)
A new detail from reception
The Thursday group is full. I can check whether there is a place on Monday, but the manager is back tomorrow.
Reply aloud in two or three sentences. Thank the receptionist, keep Monday as your next option and ask when you should contact the centre again. Then swap roles: offer a Monday class starting at 17 h 30. The learner needs to explain the half-hour clash and ask another question.
