Graded story

B1 French reading: a place in a shared art studio

Follow Nora from a studio application to a confirmed June time slot. Read the notice and her emails, then check deadlines, supplies and the possible extension.

In short

Being selected starts the booking process. Nora still needs to confirm her proposed time slot in writing within two days; the studio’s June trial and a later extension are separate decisions.

A notice and three moments in the application

Nora trouve un atelier

L’annonce

Read it in English

In June, our association will welcome six people to its shared studio. To apply, present a personal project and give two half-days when you are available. You can take part even if you have never exhibited your work. Applications will be reviewed on 20 May. Each applicant will receive a reply before 24 May.

Selected applicants will receive a proposed time slot, to confirm in writing within two days. They can request a swap if the time is unsuitable. Another slot will be offered depending on availability. Equipment lending is included during the trial; each person will bring the supplies needed for their project. At the end of the month, we will review the experience together. An extension will depend on the group’s needs and the availability of the premises.

Nora opens her email: “Your portrait project has been selected. We are offering you Tuesdays from 2 to 6 pm during June. Please confirm before 6 pm on 24 May.” She had listed Tuesday and Thursday in her application. She smiles: Tuesday suits her.

Nora writes: “Hello, thank you for your reply. I confirm the Tuesday slot, from 2 to 6 pm. Could you specify what supplies I need to bring?” The association replies: “We lend easels and stools. Bring your paper and pencils. Your slot is reserved for June.”

Nora puts her drawings away. She would like to continue in July, but reads the notice again: the extension is still to be decided. So she prepares a question for the review: “Will the premises be available next month?”
