Évoquer conjugation: évoque, évoquions and évoqué

Conjugate évoquer in seven useful tenses and moods, and distinguish mentioning a subject from calling something to mind without adding an unnecessary de.

In short

Évoquer is a regular -er verb: j’évoque, nous évoquons, j’ai évoqué. It takes a direct object: évoquer un problème means to mention an issue; cette odeur évoque un souvenir means the smell calls a memory to mind. Do not automatically insert de after the verb.

Évoquer can introduce a topic or call a memory to mind. Teaching diagram: Atelier

The two main uses share the same conjugation. A person can bring up a subject in conversation, while a place, smell or image can evoke something. Read the subject and the object together to decide which meaning fits. The initial é stays accented throughout the forms shown below, including the past participle évoqué.
