French editorial labels: reporting, opinion or advertising?

Sort French reporting, opinion and sponsored-content labels using supplied publication notes, including éditorial, tribune and publireportage.

In short

Read the label together with the publication’s explanation. In the examples below, reportage presents reported observations, éditorial and tribune present viewpoints, and publireportage or article partenaire identifies commercial content. Assess factual claims separately from the genre.

A genre label gives you a reading position. It tells you whether to expect the newspaper’s argument, a contributor’s view or a commercial relationship. It does not establish that every statement is true or false. Here the publication explains its own labels, so use those stated definitions rather than guessing from tone alone.

Keep genre and evidence separate

A tribune can cite accurate data while arguing for a particular policy. A reportage can include a mistaken number that later needs correcting. A partnership label makes funding visible but does not settle each factual claim. After identifying the function, ask who supplies the evidence, whether the claims are attributed and whether the piece offers a way to inspect its sources.

Question 1No account needed
A guest’s signed argument appears under Tribune. Whose view is it?

Choose one answer.

Answer and explanation

The invited contributor’s stated view. The publication defines its tribune as a signed invited viewpoint.

Question 2No account needed
An article sounds neutral but is labelled financed by a partner. Which clue matters for commercial status?

Choose one answer.

Answer and explanation

The disclosed financing. A calm style does not remove a stated commercial relationship.
