In short
Collision is a crash or clash; collusion is secret cooperation for a dishonest purpose. Allocation concerns an allowance or allocation of resources, allocution a short formal speech, conjecture an unproven supposition and conjoncture the circumstances at a given time.

| French word | Decisive clue | Example |
|---|---|---|
| une collision | impact or clash | Une collision a endommagé les deux véhicules. |
| une collusion | secret agreement | Une collusion entre concurrents a faussé la procédure. |
| une allocation | money or resources assigned | L’allocation des ressources sera revue. |
| une allocution | formal words spoken to an audience | L’allocution de bienvenue a duré trois minutes. |
| une conjecture | a supposition awaiting evidence | Cette explication reste une conjecture. |
| une conjoncture | a set of circumstances | La conjoncture économique freine les investissements. |
The surrounding verbs often decide the meaning: verser une allocation, prononcer une allocution, confirmer une conjecture and analyser la conjoncture. A budget can appear near all four words, so “money topic” alone is too broad a clue.
