French futur simple formation: 18 answers to practise

Build the French simple future from the infinitive and six endings. Practise parler, finir, vendre and prendre in an 18-answer drill with corrections.

In short

For regular -er and -ir future forms, keep the infinitive and add -ai, -as, -a, -ons, -ez, -ont: je parlerai, nous finirons. With the regular -re future pattern, drop the final e: vendre → elle vendra. Practise the forms, then write complete future sentences.

Use the simple future in every answer below. In part 1, write only the verb. In part 2, complete the sentence with the verb shown in brackets. In part 3, rewrite the whole sentence in the future, keeping the subject and the other words.

1 · Build the six future forms of parler

  • je
  • tu
  • il / elle / on
  • nous
  • vous
  • ils / elles

2 · Complete the future sentence

  1. Demain, je à la bibliothèque. (travailler)
  2. Tu ton dossier vendredi. (finir)
  3. Elle son ancien vélo. (vendre)
  4. Nous notre stage en mars. (choisir)
  5. Vous le train de midi. (prendre)
  6. Ils devant la gare. (attendre)

3 · Rewrite the whole sentence in the simple future

  1. Je parle au responsable. →
  2. Tu finis ton travail. →
  3. Elle vend son vélo. →
  4. Nous prenons le train. →
  5. Vous choisissez un cours. →
  6. Ils attendent leur collègue. →

How do you form the futur simple in French?

Demain, j’étudierai à la bibliothèque.

Tomorrow, I’ll study at the library.

Étudier keeps its full infinitive: Étudier- + -ai. Before the vowel, je becomes j’.

Vous prendrez le train de midi.

You’ll take the midday train.

Prendre follows the regular future-stem pattern here: drop the last e, then add -ez.

  • Nous parler avons.Nous parlerons.

The future ending attaches to the stem as one word. There is no separate auxiliary.

  • Elle vendrera son vélo.Elle vendra son vélo.

After removing the final e from vendre, attach -a directly to vendr-.

  • Demain, je parlerais au responsable.Demain, je parlerai au responsable.

For the requested simple future, write -ai. The ending -ais gives the conditional.

The ending routine stays the same with irregular future stems, but you need to learn those stems separately: être → ser-, avoir → aur-, aller → ir-. For today’s drill, focus on preserving the final r of the future stem and matching the ending to the subject.
