| Frame | Préparer | Prendre |
|---|---|---|
| A usual action now | Je prépare le dîner. | Je prends une pause. |
| A completed action yesterday | J’ai préparé le dîner. | J’ai pris une pause. |
| A plan for tomorrow | Je vais préparer le dîner. | Je vais prendre une pause. |
The subject controls the conjugated verb. In nous allons préparer, allons changes with nous and préparer stays in the infinitive. In nous avons préparé, avons is the auxiliary and préparé is the past participle.
What is the best way to practise French conjugations?
Round one asks for the present. Round two asks for the passé composé, with the auxiliary included. Round three asks for the near future, with aller included. Each hint specifies the target construction so you can focus on producing it.
Name the part that needs work
- Nous avons préparer le dîner.Nous avons préparé le dîner.
After the auxiliary avons, the completed past needs a participle: préparé.
- Tu vas pris une pause.Tu vas prendre une pause.
In the near future, aller is followed by an infinitive: prendre.
- Madame, vous avez arrivée.Madame, vous êtes arrivée.
Arriver uses être. This sentence addresses one woman, so the participle is arrivée.
