How do you organise a French vocabulary notebook?
| Field | Your entry |
|---|---|
| Word and gender | la gare · feminine |
| Meaning | railway station |
| Phrase | aller à la gare |
| Example | Je vais à la gare à pied. |
| Meaning of the example | I’m walking to the station. |
| Source | Atelier A1 · En ville · Aller, venir et transport |
For a verb, copy its partner words: aller à la gare, venir de la gare. For transport, keep the preposition inside the entry: en bus, à vélo, à pied. That gives you a phrase you can put straight into a sentence.
Places · where you are going
Transport · how you get there
Cover the labels and name the place or vehicle

- Je vais en pied.Je vais à pied.
Keep à pied together as one notebook entry.
- Nous allons à le musée.Nous allons au musée.
à + le becomes au. Copy the phrase beside le musée.
Add a short index: “Town · page 3; Food · page 4”. On the food page, an entry might be le pain → acheter du pain. Keep the article in the headword and the form you need in the phrase. Leave a little room for your next example.
