In an application, consolider can describe making existing skills more secure through further use. It is not the same as claiming to have mastered every aspect. Name the skill and the activity through which it developed. The verb can also describe physically reinforcing something; the object supplies that distinction.

Nous consolidons is present indicative, or the nous imperative when used without its subject. Nous consolidions can be imperfect or subjunctive depending on the frame. The extra i is part of the ending, not a spelling change to the stem consolid-. Compare aujourd’hui nous consolidons and il faut que nous consolidions.

  • Vous consolidons nos connaissances.Vous consolidez nos connaissances.

The subject vous takes consolidez; consolidons belongs to nous. The possessive nos can still name knowledge shared with the speaker.

  • Je consolide à mes compétences.Je consolide mes compétences.
