Bedtime routines use reflexive verbs: je me couche (I go to bed), je m'endors (I fall asleep), je me réveille (I wake up) and je me lève (I get up). Faire son lit means to make your bed, and éteindre la lumière to switch off the light.
Le soir, je lis un peu, puis j'éteins la lampe de chevet.
In the evening I read a little, then I switch off the bedside lamp.
À côté de contracts with le: à côté du lit. With plural nouns it becomes à côté des: à côté des rideaux.
