Why does boire have three stems?

Group the forms by sound: bois / boit ("bwa") for the singular, buv- for nous and vous (and the whole imparfait), and boiv- only for ils boivent and the subjunctive singular. The future simply uses boir-. Learn nous buvons and ils boivent by heart and the rest follows.
