The last service

Sami (the three specific plates) pose sur la table.

« Des bols réutilisables, il (pronoun for an available quantity) reste ? » demande-t-il. Léa ouvre un placard. « Oui, j’(pronoun for a quantity) vois neuf.

« Tu (some of the remaining soup) veux ?

Read it in English

At the food festival, service is coming to an end. There are twelve meals left to serve, but only three disposable plates. Sami puts them on the table. He serves the next three customers. Now there are no disposable plates left.

“Are there any reusable bowls left?” he asks. Léa opens a cupboard. “Yes, I can see nine.” The nine bowls are clean. She brings them to the stall. Sami takes the large saucepan of soup and puts it beside him.

He pours a portion of soup into each bowl. Léa counts: “We have enough soup for the last nine customers.” They serve the nine meals. The customers eat near the stall, then return their bowls. Léa washes them in the kitchen.

At the end, Sami looks at the saucepan. There is a little soup left at the bottom. “Would you like some?” he asks Léa. She replies, “Yes, thanks. I’ll take this bowl, and afterwards I’ll wash it.” The festival’s last meal is for the volunteers.
