In short
Name the relationship behind the correction, then try it with new words. Une proposition intéressante tests adjective agreement; les propositions que j’ai retenues tests a past participle with a preceding direct object. Similar endings can come from different rules.

Study first: three corrections, three questions
- Si j’aurais plus de temps, je participerais.Si j’avais plus de temps, je participerais.
For this imagined present situation, use si + imparfait; the result uses the conditional. Ask: which half describes the condition?
- Ces propositions sont intéressant.Ces propositions sont intéressantes.
The adjective describes feminine plural propositions. Ask: which noun controls its ending?
- Les propositions que j’ai retenu sont utiles.Les propositions que j’ai retenues sont utiles.
Que is the direct object of ai retenu and refers to feminine plural propositions. It precedes the verb, so write retenues.
Complete only the missing form. Each group tests one relationship with fresh vocabulary. Accents count. For the participles, look to the object before the verb rather than to the person doing the action.
1 · Imagined conditions: imparfait or conditional
- Si nous plus de temps, nous participerions au débat. (avoir — imparfait)
- Si elle était libre, elle à la réunion. (venir — conditionnel)
- Si vous choisir, vous commenceriez quand ? (pouvoir — imparfait)
2 · Adjectives: find the noun
- Cette solution est . (coûteux — accord)
- Ces activités sont . (utile — accord)
- Ces remarques sont . (précis — accord)
3 · Past participles: find the preceding direct object
- Les lettres que nous avons sont arrivées. (envoyer — participe passé)
- La réponse qu’il a est claire. (recevoir — participe passé)
- Les messages qu’elle a sont importants. (lire — participe passé)
How do you learn from French grammar corrections?
Je me demande si cet horaire vous conviendrait.
I wonder whether this time would suit you.
Here si means “whether” and introduces an indirect question. The conditional is appropriate; this is a different construction from an imagined condition.
