B1 French opinion review: make your claim fit your example

Review a proposal for a neighbourhood lending library. Replace an overclaim, keep a practical difficulty and rehearse a reply to an objection.

In short

Compare the strength of your claim with what the example shows. A person borrowing one tool supports occasional usefulness; it leaves the number of future users and the return system to be decided.

The project: borrow things you rarely use

A neighbourhood group wants to lend useful objects to residents. It still needs to choose the objects and organise returns. Your speaking brief is to give your view and explain a practical difficulty. Start from these notes: occasional needs, returns to organise, a small trial.

What residents could borrow

Je suis pour ce projet parce que tout le monde utilisera les objets. Les retours seront faciles. Par exemple, une personne pourrait emprunter une perceuse pour une seule tâche.

I support this project because everyone will use the objects. Returns will be easy. For example, someone could borrow a drill for one task.

How do you support an opinion with an example in French?

Je suis favorable à un essai limité, car certains habitants pourraient emprunter un objet pour un besoin occasionnel. Par exemple, une perceuse peut être utile pour une seule tâche. En revanche, il faudrait préciser comment suivre les prêts et organiser les retours.

I support a limited trial because some residents could borrow an object for an occasional need. For example, a drill can be useful for one task. However, we would need to specify how to track loans and organise returns.

La question qui suit
  1. Partenaire

Et si un objet n’est pas rendu ?

What if an object is not returned?

  2. Vous

C’est une difficulté à prévoir. Le groupe devrait décider comment suivre les prêts et traiter les retards avant de commencer l’essai.

That is a difficulty to anticipate. The group should decide how to track loans and handle delays before starting the trial.

The revised opening and the reply now fit together. Both support a trial and treat returns as work to do. In your next rehearsal, keep three short notes visible: one possible use, one practical difficulty, one action to prepare. Ask your partner to raise a different difficulty and respond to that exact question.
