In what order do two French object pronouns go?
The order looks arbitrary, but a rhythm helps: first-and-second persons (me, te, nous, vous), then the direct third-person (le, la, les), then the indirect third-person (lui, leur), then y, then en. Lui and leur never come before le, la, les. In the affirmative imperative, the order changes: Donne-le-moi !
- Je lui le donne.Je le lui donne.
Le comes before lui.
- Il en me parle.Il m'en parle.
En always comes last.
- Je les leur ai donné.Je les leur ai donnés.
The participle agrees with les placed before.
