Écrire means “to write”: j’écris, tu écris, il écrit. Add the v in the present plural: nous écrivons, vous écrivez, ils écrivent. The past participle is écrit, with a final -t: j’ai écrit.

Why does écrire have a v in the plural?
The accent stays on the first é in every form. The v appears in the present plural, the whole imparfait and the present subjunctive: écrivons, écrivais, que j’écrive. The future and conditional use écrir- without v: j’écrirai, j’écrirais. Begin with the present and j’ai écrit; the later tables support the next course stages.

The present plural stem is écriv-; keep the v before -ons.

The participle ends in -t: écrit. Écris is a present form.
