» Rania a souri. « Celle-ci, je l’ai reçue au printemps. L’étiquette raconte une histoire plus ancienne. »
Read it in English
That morning, Rania was looking for a place for her new plant. She chose the windowsill beside her desk. Fine roots were already visible in the transparent pot. An old label was attached to it: “Aïcha, 2012”.
When Hugo came in, he bent down to read it. “Is your little plant more than ten years old?” Rania smiled. “This one, I received in spring. The label tells an older story.”
Her aunt had received the original plant in 2012 when she moved into a new house. Over the years, she had given cuttings to several family members. In spring it was Rania’s turn. She had given her a small plant and the old label.
“I wanted to keep her handwriting,” Rania explained. “But you’re right: the two dates can be confused.” She took a new label and wrote: “Cutting given by Aïcha, spring 2026”. Then she attached it beside the other one.
Hugo suggested photographing the two labels for the family album. Rania turned the pot towards him. “Wait, you can see the roots better from this side!” In the photograph, each of the two gifts finally had its own date.
