In short

Compare one feature in both attempts, quote the wording that changed, and record the help you used. Then try the same feature in a fresh task. A clearer request is easier to track than a general feeling that your French is better.

Start with one request

Vous avez rendez-vous jeudi. Vous travaillez ce jour-là. Demandez à déplacer le rendez-vous à vendredi et expliquez pourquoi.

You have an appointment on Thursday. You are working that day. Ask to move the appointment to Friday and explain why.

Two attempts at the same email
FeatureFirst attemptRevised attempt

The first opening names the topic. The second asks for an action and gives both days. Both versions contain a reason. The revised closing also gives the recipient a clear next step: say whether the change is possible.

How do you compare two French practice attempts?

Attach the conditions to your comparison
AttemptPreparation and helpWhat to compare
First emailSame brief; five minutes; no modelWas the request explicit?
RevisionSame brief; five minutes; after reading a modelDid the request become explicit?
Fresh emailDifferent brief; five minutes; model closedCan I make another request clear?

Dans ma version révisée, la demande est explicite. J’ai utilisé un modèle pour trouver la structure.

In my revised version, the request is explicit. I used a model to find the structure.

Keep the first draft. Highlight the request in each version and read just those two sentences aloud. Length alone tells you little: one precise sentence can do more work than three sentences about the topic. If you compare spoken attempts, keep both recordings so you can also hear pauses and delivery.

Try a new request

Vous avez reçu le programme d’un atelier, mais il manque les horaires. Écrivez à l’équipe pour les demander et expliquez à quoi ils vous serviront.

You have received a workshop programme, but the times are missing. Write to the team to ask for them and explain why you need them.

Close the appointment model before writing. Underline the requested information and circle the reason. This time, the target is still a clear request, but the action has changed: you need information rather than a new appointment.

Question 1No account needed
What improved in the revised appointment opening?

Choose one answer.

Answer and explanation

It asks for a specific change.. The revised sentence asks to move Thursday’s appointment to Friday. Availability still awaits a reply.

Question 2No account needed
The revision followed model study. Which note is most useful?

Choose one answer.

Answer and explanation

My request became clearer after model study.. This note names both the observed change and the support used during revision.

Question 3No account needed
Which fresh task tests the same skill?

Choose one answer.

Answer and explanation

Ask the team for the missing workshop times.. The workshop email calls for a new explicit request, so you must apply the skill to different content.
