In short
An ordinary affirmative opinion takes the indicative: je pense qu’il est prêt. A negative opinion expressing doubt normally takes the subjunctive: je ne pense pas qu’il soit prêt. With questions, both moods occur; the wording and the speaker’s stance matter.

Does penser que take the subjunctive?
Tu penses qu’elle est prête ?
Do you think she is ready?
A conversational question about someone’s belief uses the indicative here.
Croyez-vous qu’elle soit prête ?
Do you believe she is ready?
The subjunctive presents her readiness as an open possibility in this more formal question.
You can also hear Croyez-vous qu’elle est prête ? Inversion alone leaves room for either mood. In the drill, the hint names the mood to practise. In the negative sentences, use the standard subjunctive pattern for a doubtful opinion. Keep pense or crois in the present; the gap belongs to the following clause.
When do you use the past subjunctive after penser?
Je ne crois pas qu’il ait compris la question.
I don’t think he understood the question.
The understanding comes before the opinion expressed now: subjunctive avoir + compris.
