In short
Supprimer removes an item: supprimer un fichier. Effacer erases writing or clears content: effacer le tableau. Digital uses overlap, so name the item or content you mean.

Effacer un fichier is also possible. The two verbs overlap in digital French. For a clear everyday contrast, compare supprimer une ligne du document with effacer le tableau. The first removes a unit from a document; the second clears a surface.

The cedilla in nous effaçons keeps the soft c sound before o. With e, write an ordinary c: j’efface, vous effacez. The past participles are supprimé and effacé.
