Le cours du matin ou celui du soir ?
The morning course or the evening one?
- Idriss
Je choisis celui du soir. Je travaille le matin.
I choose the evening one. I work in the morning.
- Nora
Alors, tu as décidé de t’inscrire ?
So, have you decided to enrol?
- Idriss
Oui. Je vais remplir le formulaire ce soir.
Yes. I’m going to fill in the form tonight.
The choice is the evening course; the decision is to enrol. Idriss still has a form to fill in. A decision can concern something small, such as décider de commander un café, or something large. Likewise, choisir une profession can be a major choice.
You can say Elle choisit de partir or Elle décide de partir. Both fit: one highlights the selected action, the other the decision. With a noun, useful models are choisir une date and décider du programme. Here, du comes from de + le.
