French source tasks: separate the author’s view from your response
Summarise two views on meetings, then add your own position. Practise attribution, careful paraphrases and the boundary between reporting and judging.
In short
Name the source when you report its position: Selon l’autrice… Mark your own response when the task invites it: Pour ma part… Keep the source’s limits, including certaines and pourraient, as you paraphrase.

Read two short contributions

Camille’s contribution. The proposal concerns some meetings, with preparation and a single subject.
I understand the wish to save time. However, informal exchanges also allow difficulties to emerge. A meeting that is too short risks leaving some questions aside.
Malik’s contribution. He identifies a risk; he also acknowledges the wish to save time.

Focus: Introduce your judgement.
For my part, I would set aside time for questions at the end of each meeting.
How do you separate a source’s view from your own?
| Brief | What belongs |
|---|---|
| Report Camille and Malik; leave your recommendation out. |
| Report both positions, then add your own supported response. |

J’ai écrit : « Cette proposition est absurde. » Pourtant, je n’ai pas utilisé « je ».
I wrote: “This proposal is absurd.” Yet I didn’t use “I”.

The word “absurd” still expresses a judgement. Who is making that judgement?

It’s my opinion. I’ll keep it for the part where I take a position.
Camille and Malik emphasise different concerns. Malik’s acknowledgement of time savings keeps the disagreement specific: he worries about losing useful exchanges. A summary that calls him opposed to every shorter meeting would widen his position.
