In short
When voices overlap, keep the main speaker’s thread and check whether the interruption adds a correction. A brief d’accord can let the story continue; vendredi, pardon can change the day you need. Ask for a clear repeat with Vous pouvez reprendre, une personne à la fois ?

Let the account continue
A short acknowledgement fits inside a longer account. The continuation tells you where the main thread goes.
Keep a correction
The correction changes one detail. Wait for the next speaker to accept it.
Get one clear version
Use this when two voices cover the information you need.
Finish the point you were making
| You hear | Job in this exchange | What to retain |
|---|---|---|
| D’accord. | Acknowledges an ongoing account | The first speaker continues. |
| Vendredi, pardon. | Replaces a day | Check that Friday is accepted. |
| Je voudrais juste préciser… | Introduces a clarification | Keep the detail that follows. |
For a recording, replay from just before the overlap through the next complete turn. The continuation can repeat or accept the obscured word. In a live exchange, target the missing day, amount or action with a brief question.
