In short
Se grouiller means “get a move on” in very informal French. Se dépêcher is the everyday neutral verb for “hurry”. Both keep a reflexive pronoun: je me grouille, je me dépêche. With an affirmative command, put it after the verb: Grouille-toi ! / Dépêche-toi !

OK, I’m coming!
Maya uses a direct, familiar command. Dépêche-toi ! is less slangy, but still direct. To explain the pressure without a command, say Nous devons partir dans cinq minutes. For a request with vous, try Pourriez-vous vous dépêcher, s’il vous plaît ? The relationship and tone shape how it sounds.

What does se grouiller mean?
| Pattern | Statement | Command |
|---|---|---|
| One person, affirmative | Tu te dépêches. | Dépêche-toi ! |
| Several people or vous | Vous vous dépêchez. | Dépêchez-vous ! |
| One person, negative | Tu ne te dépêches pas. | Ne te dépêche pas ! |
| Together | Nous nous dépêchons. | Dépêchons-nous ! |
In an affirmative command, te becomes toi and follows a hyphen. In a negative command, te stays before the verb: ne te dépêche pas. The same positions work with se grouiller. These regular -er verbs lose the final -s in the tu imperative: grouille, dépêche.
Type only the missing words in the sentences. In the command section, write the full command with its pronoun and hyphen, leaving out the final exclamation mark. Watch the circumflex in dépêcher. All of the present-tense examples below use se grouiller.
