B2 French reading quiz: two views on changing market hours

Compare two French arguments about later market hours. Eight questions test their shared goal, different next steps and the limits of a one-day trial.

In short

Both writers want more residents to be able to visit the market. Léa wants to observe a one-day trial; Idriss wants an availability enquiry and a clearer question first. Compare their next steps as well as their goal.

Deux avis sur un marché plus tardif
  1. Léa · Text A

Moving the market to late afternoon could allow residents who work in the morning to attend. I propose a trial on one date, announced early enough. Traders could then compare their experience with an ordinary Saturday. Without a trial, we risk spending a long time discussing effects nobody has observed here.

  2. Idriss · Text B

Making the market accessible to more residents is desirable. However, one isolated date will not necessarily tell us whether the new time would work in the long term. Before moving the market, let us ask traders and visitors which times would actually be possible for them. I do not reject every trial; I ask for it to answer a better-defined question.
