French condolence phrases: what to say and how to offer help

Express condolences in French with a friend or colleague, write a short sympathy message and offer specific help with room for the person to decline.

In short

With a friend, Je pense fort à toi (I’m thinking of you) is warm and simple. In a more formal exchange, use Je vous présente mes sincères condoléances. For practical support, name one action: Je peux te préparer un repas demain, si tu veux.
