The same pattern works for thirst and tiredness: j'ai soif → je meurs de soif; je suis fatigué → je suis crevé (casual) → je suis épuisé. Note that fatigue uses être, while hunger, thirst, heat and cold use avoir: j'ai chaud, j'ai froid, j'ai sommeil.

Je suis crevé, je vais me coucher.

I'm shattered, I'm going to bed.

Tiredness uses être.

Il fait chaud, je meurs de soif !

It's hot, I'm dying of thirst!

  • Je suis faim.J'ai faim.

    Hunger takes avoir.

  • J'ai très faim de loup.J'ai une faim de loup.

    The idiom stands alone.
