A2 French reading and writing: change the plan when the time changes

Read a workshop update, calculate the new finish time and write a fresh message to a friend. Includes a timetable, model reply and review checklist.

In short

Recalculate the finish time, compare it with your availability, then change the message that depends on it. Here the workshop becomes longer, so an invitation turns into a request to find another activity.

First attempt: an hour fits

L’atelier commence samedi à dix heures et dure une heure. Vous êtes libre jusqu’à midi.

The workshop starts on Saturday at ten and lasts an hour. You are free until noon.

Salut Nora ! L’atelier commence à dix heures et finit à onze heures. Cet horaire me convient. Est-ce que tu veux venir avec moi ?

Hi Nora! The workshop starts at ten and finishes at eleven. That time suits me. Would you like to come with me?

The first message does two useful things: it checks the time and asks Nora to join you. Your availability ends at noon; the message keeps that fact separate from Nora’s answer. Keep the friendly greeting and the clear question when you write again.

One update changes the decision

Attention : l’atelier dure maintenant trois heures. Il commence toujours à dix heures. Il faut rester pendant toute la séance.

Please note: the workshop now lasts three hours. It still starts at ten. You must stay for the whole session.

The start stays the same, but the finish moves past your limit. For the second attempt, the writing brief changes too: tell Nora about the problem and suggest choosing something else. Keep the cause short: the three-hour duration is enough to explain the conflict.

Read a model answer

Salut Nora !
