Retry a French reading task: postponed, moved or cancelled?
Work through a postponement, then retry with new wording. Compare reporté, déplacé and annulé in four short notices with questions and a checklist.
In short
On a retry, say what happens to the event and point to the words that establish it. Then try a new notice with different days and wording: that gives you a fresh decision to make.

What is the difference between postponed, moved and cancelled in French?
La rencontre prévue vendredi est reportée à samedi.
The meeting planned for Friday is postponed until Saturday.
| Stage | What to keep |
|---|---|
| First choice | “The meeting is cancelled.” |
| Decisive words | reportée à samedi |
| Corrected meaning | The meeting has a new date: Saturday. |
| Next action | Check whether the text removes the event or changes its date. |
Keep your first choice beside the sentence. You can now see the exact mismatch: you read a change of date as a cancellation. If you used a dictionary or the explanation, add that to your note. The second attempt can then focus on explaining the distinction in your own words.
reporter une rencontreto postpone a meeting
Focus: a later time
La rencontre est reportée à lundi.
The meeting is postponed until Monday.
déplacer une rencontreto move a meeting
Focus: a changed place or time, specified by the sentence
La rencontre est déplacée à dix heures.
The meeting is moved to ten o’clock.
annuler une rencontreto cancel a meeting
Focus: the planned meeting will not take place
La rencontre de lundi est annulée.
Monday’s meeting is cancelled.
Four fresh notices: decide each time
Read each French notice aloud once. Give a brief English summary before selecting an option. The choices mix dates, formats and event status, so a familiar word on its own will not settle the answer. Open the explanation only after you have made your choice.
